Tbilisi has a thriving photography scene that shouldn’t be overlooked. Some of Europe’s most talented photographers call this vibrant up-and-coming city home. Here’s a list of five of our favorites.

1. DARO SULAKAURI

Daro’s work has been featured in world-class publications including National Geographic and The New York Times and has taken home numerous prestigious awards. But that’s not why we love her style. Daro’s work is intimate and powerful

Most of all it speaks to the character of the country and the city that we all know and love. You can follow Daro on Instagram @darosulakauri. Just be careful. You’ll get lost for hours. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

2. NATELA GRIGALASHVILI

Natela is one of Georgia’s most talented documentary photographers. She has spent years documenting remote Georgian villages. Her compelling portfolio is deeply personal and thought-provoking. It challenges us to confront our biases about places which are often hidden from view.

You can follow Natela on Instagram @Natela_Grigalashvili. While you’re at it you should check out her phenomenal Tbilisi-based documentary photography agency Kontakt Photos

3. DINA OGANOVA

Dina’s photographic exposé ‘I Am Georgia‘ offers one of the most intimate glimpses of Georgian society we’ve come across. In the world of heavy-handed photoshopped images, Dina has managed to buck the trend and keep her work refreshingly personal.

If you don’t believe us take a look at her beautiful photography book – that she made by hand.

4. DATO KORIDZE

Dato’s work is hauntingly beautiful. Unfortunately for Instagram fans he keeps most of it close to his chest. So if you like his style you might want to meander over to his website for more.

4. GEORGE GOGUA

George made a splash on the international photography scene with his noteworthy ‘The Beauty of Soviet Architecture‘ series. But his portfolio runs much deeper.

You can follow George on Instagram, but while you’re at it you should check out some of his carefully curated series over on photoessay.ge. You won’t be disappointed.
