An unidentified young girl, clutching her stuffed animal, bites into her rationed loaf of bread in the Chechen capital of Grozny, March 25, 1995. Residents in Grozny are given one loaf of bread and one liter of water per person per day by the Russian Army.

About the Artist

Shakhveled Aivazov (b. 1956)  is a decorated photojournalist who has worked for the Associated Press for more than 20 years. As a war reporter during the 1990’s he was often sent by AP to cover the conflicts in Chechnya, Ossetia, Nagorno-Karabakh, and Abkhazia. “People often ask me how I became a military photojournalist, but I cannot answer this question unequivocally. Apparently, these are the impulses of the heart, the desire to bring the truth to the world. I will say this: no man can not experience horror and fear when bullets are flying nearby, shells are exploding, and people are dying. At first your hands are shaking, but as you work, you get a grip and after a while you just do your work in extreme conditions.” – Shakh Aivazov

Our curators are here to help you personalize your fine art collection. Please contact our Gallery Director, Elene Sidamonidze at director@fotografia.ge for a consultation or if you would like to arrange a private viewing in our gallery.

We also would be happy to set up a call or video conference depending on your preference. You can reach us directly at +995 599 093 444.

Shipping costs are calculated automatically at checkout. Aramex Express has consistently provided our gallery with a high level of reliability and speedy service for worldwide shipments. Our prints are carefully packaged to ensure their integrity during transit. We insure your package for the value of your print just in case your package is lost or damaged.

Processing: It can take us up to 5 business days to process your package and send your print. This is because the Georgian government often requires us to submit a request to the Ministry of Culture to receive permission to send parcels that may contain cultural artifacts, including our limited edition prints.

Delivery: After placing your order you will receive a tracking number from us to track your print or photography book while it is in transit. Aramex Express usually takes between 5 and 7 business days to reach Western Europe from Georgia, and 6-10 days to reach North America.

You can visit Aramex for more information about their policies. If you have already purchased your print, you can track your package here.

Please note: you may have to pay import taxes depending on the value of your print. Import taxes are not included in the shipping cost as they vary from country to country. If you live in the European Union you can find more information about import taxes on the EU’s consumer website.

Alternative Shipping Methods: In some cases alternative international shipping methods are available which may reduce the cost of sending your parcel, however we have not found these services very reliable. If you would like us to send your print with an alternative less expensive service, such as Georgian Post, we can do so, but we do not recommend it.
